Construction (Including Housing) Exempted from California Stay at Home Order

On Thursday, March 19, 2020, the State of California issued a “stay home” order requiring all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the certain critical infrastructure sectors.

Thanks to the efforts of industry participants, construction, including housing construction, has been confirmed as critical infrastructure and have been exempted from the order and may proceed. The State of California’s website now includes the following language:

“The California State Public Health Officer and Director of the California Department of Public Health is ordering all individuals living in the State of California to stay home or at their place of residence, except as needed to maintain continuity of operation of the federal critical infrastructure sectors, critical government services, schools, childcare, and construction, including housing construction.”
