Ben presently serves in the Navy Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps. As an active duty JAG, he obtained multiple acquittals in jury trials and served as the Navy’s Senior Defense Counsel for the Pacific Northwest. Prior to becoming a JAG, Ben was a Surface Warfare Officer and deployed twice to the Persian Gulf.
Ben is a combat veteran, having deployed to Afghanistan in 2013 in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he served as a NATO Rule of Law Support Mission Team Chief and later as the Legal Advisor to the Commander, NATO Training Mission Afghanistan.
While serving in the Navy, Ben has received multiple Joint Service Commendation Medals, multiple Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, an Army Commendation Medal and multiple Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals as well as the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
In the Navy, Ben gained extensive leadership experience as well as experience advising large institutional clients and executive level leaders regarding a broad range of complex issues, developing and implementing policy, and providing timely and practical advice for stakeholders. He also gained significant trial experience, representing clients in hundreds of cases, including six jury trials and dozens of bench trials. Ben is recognized for performing comprehensive internal investigations on matters involving fraud, larceny, command climate, line of duty, and sexual misconduct.
